Flowers in the cultural landscape

Traditional cultural landscapes such as hay meadows and mountain pastures are home to a variety of flowers in different colours and shapes. Here, we present some common and less common flowering plants that are closely associated with these landscapes.

Cultural landscapes that are no longer actively maintained lose their distinctive character. Land that was once cultivated and managed becomes overgrown with dense vegetation, and the former diversity of species in the landscape begins to change. More intensive farming also affects the distribution of wildflowers.

In the articles on this page, you can read about the habitat and biology of different flowers, their distribution, traditional uses and practical value. The articles are in Norwegian, but we hope you can find some good translation tools!
