CURIOSOIL (Awakening Soil Curiosity to Catalyse Soil Literacy) seeks to address the soil degradation challenge by enhancing soil literacy through collaborative efforts in education. CURIOSOIL is a four-year project involving 14 partners across Europe. The project is led by the University of Aveiro in Portugal and is funded by the EU as part of the EU Soil Mission. Consortium members work collaboratively to develop courses, educational materials and curriculum standards. The partners contribute with their research and expertise in natural, educational and social sciences. NIBIO contributes with knowledge and research in soil science.
The project will develop teaching materials, curriculum standards, courses, a MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) for teachers and trainers who want to incorporate soil into their teaching as well as a MOOC aimed at those who want to learn more about soil at bachelor level. A Curiosity Kit will also be created with a wide range of soil-related activities for different age groups and contexts - both for formal education and home activities. All these resources will be made openly available free of charge on the project website. The project also supports community-led soil initiatives throughout its partner countries.
Anyone can follow what is happening in CURIOSOIL! To do so, please go to the CURIOSOIL website. You can register and receive newsletters by email on the website.
If you want to get more involved in the project, you can join the CURIOSOIL Community of Practice (CoP). As a member of the CoP, you will become part of a collaborative network that aims to increase soil curiosity and literacy. CoPs have been established in a total of 17 different countries. Through the CoP you will get the opportunity to build a network nationally and across Europe.
