Horses: An industry and a hobby
Horses have become increasingly important in Norway over the past few decades, both as an industry and as a hobby. This development has led to new areas in which horses can be used, and thus a need for new knowledge too. NIBIO has addressed this need and wishes to contribute to further growth based on research and the sharing of knowledge.

There are many views concerning right and wrong practices in horse management. We are in favor of working with horses in various ways. However, quality-assured knowledge of regulations, welfare, biology, behavior and human-horse relationships should be taken into consideration.
The aim of NIBIO researchers is to help ensure that objective, research-based knowledge forms the basis for horse management in Norway. Within this lies the fundament of ethical horse training and use, learning theory principles and the constant research for horse welfare.
