Projects

NIBIO is a project driven research institute and collects approximately 400 million NOK annually in project funding from both national and international sources. A lot of activity is carried out through EU and EEA-projects and we also participate in research projects in Asia, Africa and Latin America. NIBIO coordinates several large international projects with a particular focus on food security and climate change. The list of projects is not complete.

Effective conservation and management of polar bears depend on robust knowledge of their ecology, behaviour, population size and structure, connectivity, and adaptive capacity. Although genetic tools are critical for addressing these questions, traditional sampling approaches, often involving capture and handling, are logistically challenging, costly, potentially hazardous to personnel, and can cause stress to animals

OceanGreen: Maximizing Economic Value through Restored Kelp Forests and Sustainable Fisheries


The OceanGreen project aims to restore and protect kelp forests along the Norwegian coast, develop sea urchin removal technologies, and create commercially viable products from harvested sea urchins. It focuses on kelp forest restoration, scalable technologies, sea urchin utilisation, collaboration, and coastal community revitalisation.
