Projects

NIBIO is a project driven research institute and collects approximately 400 million NOK annually in project funding from both national and international sources. A lot of activity is carried out through EU and EEA-projects and we also participate in research projects in Asia, Africa and Latin America. NIBIO coordinates several large international projects with a particular focus on food security and climate change. The list of projects is not complete.

SMARTCROP

Innovative approaches and technologies for Integrated Pest Management to increase sustainable food production.
Norway has implemented EU´s Directive on sustainable use of pesticides (2009/128/EC) which promotes the use of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and alternative approaches or techniques (IPM tools) to minimize pesticide use. There is a lack, however, of proven and practical IPM tools for farmers to use, as well as a relevant policy for a successful implementation of IPM.

PlantStrength – Strenghtening the basis of sound plant protection

This strategic institute initiative aims to understand the interactions between plant pathogens, invertebrate pests, weeds and natural enemies to evaluate and improve management strategies for cereals under the current and future Norwegian climate. The work is divided in 3 work packages: WP1: The Fusarium-Oat system WP2: The Cereal pest syndrome WP 3: Simulation computer models.
