NIBIO is a project driven research institute and collects approximately 400 million NOK annually in project funding from both national and international sources. A lot of activity is carried out through EU and EEA-projects and we also participate in research projects in Asia, Africa and Latin America. NIBIO coordinates several large international projects with a particular focus on food security and climate change. The list of projects is not complete.

PROTECT: Effects of defense priming on Norway spruce needle microbiome and pest resistance
In correlation with our Research Council of Norway funded project on the effects of Norway spruce defense priming on the root microbiome and resistance, we will also analyse the effects of spruce defense priming and soil microbiota on the spruce needle microbiome and resistance. This project is funded by SNS - Nordic Forest Research.

Producing advanced bio-based fertilizers from fisheries wastes - SEA2LAND
The aim of SEA2LAND is to valorize waste/residues from fishereis and aquaculture as fertilisers and soil improvers. This is a European project with partners from Malta and other Meditranean countries in the south to Norway in the north as well as in Chile in South America. A large number of products will be developed and tested across Europe. The goal is to develop products ready for market. In Norway we focus on fish sludge from aquaculture.

Improvement and innovation of a BIO-secure Recirculating Aquaculture System for SHRIMP and additional biomass circular production
Shrimp production in aquaculture is going to be made sustainable in a European project, also with participation from India. NIBIO will be responsible for evaluation and sustainable use of the residues, primarily as fertilisers.
