NIBIO is a project driven research institute and collects approximately 400 million NOK annually in project funding from both national and international sources. A lot of activity is carried out through EU and EEA-projects and we also participate in research projects in Asia, Africa and Latin America. NIBIO coordinates several large international projects with a particular focus on food security and climate change. The list of projects is not complete.
CoastAfrica is an international research and education partnership that strengthens collaboration between Norwegian and African institutions to monitor coastal environmental change.
In Norway, a declining grazing pressure and farm abandonment have led to undesirable ecological and socio-economic outcomes. The TechGraze project aims to address these challenges by integrating Virtual Fencing (VF) and Remote Sensing (RS) technologies to enhance pasture-based livestock management.
The Comprehensive Riverine Inputs and Direct Discharges (RID) programme aims to monitor and assess all inputs and discharges of selected contaminants to the OSPAR maritime area and its regions that are carried via rivers into tidal waters, or are discharged directly into the sea, for example through sewage pipelines or activities like aquaculture inputting substances directly.
