Illustration: Anne de Boer

The aim is to test the biological effects of bark condensed tannins (CT) extracts on selected ovine and bovine nematodes

Gastrointestinal nematode infestations is very common and causes production loss and reduced animal welfare. Products from extraction and fractionation of bark will be tested in laboratory against nematodes found in the abomasum (stomach) and intestine of sheep and in the abomasum of cattle.  The most appropriate bark extracts will be tested for anti-parasitic activity and effects on the performance in sheep that is infected by gastro-intestinal nematodes.
