SUFFICIENT is a highly innovative and industry driven collaboration project which brings together Norwegian industries from aquaculture (Cermaq), agriculture (Woolero and Terramarine) and biorefinery (Greentech) to develop new circular bioprocess routes, comprising anaerobic digestion, hydrolysis and fungal fermentation, for efficient conversion of selectively processed biowastes into products for fish & animal feed and biostimulant fertilizers.

SUFFICIENT aims will be achieved through the close collaboration between the research partners – the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU) and NIBIO, and with the involvement of Mære Agricultural School (Mære landbrukskole).

NIBIO is a key research partner responsible for WP1 and WP5 in the SUFFICIENT project. In WP1, NIBIO leads the development and optimization of anaerobic digestion of fish sludge, including nutrient balancing and digestate post-treatment to enable downstream fungal fermentation.

In WP5, NIBIO contributes to the sustainability, economic and social assessments, with a particular focus on end-user and consumer acceptance of products derived from biowaste-based feed and fertilizer value chains, supporting the overall viability and societal uptake of the SUFFICIENT technology.
