WP 4: Preliminary results after first interviews with farmers

Photo: Erik Joner
In order to explore possibilities and barriers for waste based fertilizer products, we have completed interviews with farmers, possible suppliers and environmental NGOs
The first interviews with farmers have shown that:
- Most of the farmers have no principle opposition to using waste based fertilizer products
- If it is practical to use and provide the same earnings as mineral fertilizer the farmers are interested in using it
- Organic material in the soil is important for most of the farmers
- The products should preferably be balanced with respect to nutrients
- Important that using waste based fertilizer products do not imply increase soil compaction and increased tractor driving
- No strong environmental or intrinsic motivation to use it
- Some skepticism regarding uncertainty about the exact content of nutrients
- Some skepticism to long term environmental risks from waste based fertilizer products from sewage and fish sludge from one of the farmers.
