Virus, Bacteria and Nematodes

Main research areas, activities and responsibilities of Dpt of Virus, Bacteria and Nematodes:
  • Is the national reference laboratory for quarantine pests
  • Is responsible for the operation, administration and development of the “Plant Diagnostic Clinic”
  • Provides support to the Norwegian Food Safety Authority on plant health issues and plant disease control
  • Diagnosis of viruses, bacteria and nematodes utilizing standard and molecular techniques
  • Monitoring of quarantine pests and diseases (e.g. PSTVd, PLRV)
  • Carries out basic studies of the biology, epidemiology and molecular aspects of viruses, bacteria and nematodes.
  • Research and development activities regarding nuclear stock certification schemes, generation for virus-free plant material, cryopreservation and plant tissue culture, screening and characterization of bioactive substances and virus-based technology for gene expression and “virus-based biological control”
  • Development of plant pathogen control strategies (IPM)
